Eco-friendly carpet tiles

Eco-friendly and sustainable carpet tiles

At Interface, sustainability is at the core of everything they do. They are the first global flooring manufacturer to guarantee that all their products are CO₂-neutral throughout their entire life cycle.

We exclusively sell Interface carpet tiles because we believe in their sustainable mission. This means that our entire stock consists of high-quality, eco-friendly carpet tiles, 98% of which now feature the innovative CQuest backing.

This sustainable flooring contains more recycled and bio-based materials, resulting in a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. The CQuest Bio backing is made from a bio-composite with recycled fillers and is even net CO₂-negative.

Sustainability starts with the choices we make ourselves. By choosing our Interface carpet tiles, you directly contribute to a better environment, whether at home, in the office or in a public space.

Sustainable backings for Interface carpet tiles

Overview of Interface CQuest backings - cross section of the different backing layers

An important part of sustainable carpet tiles is the backing. The backing forms the stable base layer of the tile and determines the comfort, sound insulation and durability of the floor.

Interface has developed several sustainable backing technologies using recycled and bio-based materials. Some backings even store CO₂, contributing to a lower environmental impact.

Below we explain the most important backings.

What is the backing of a carpet tile?

The backing is the underside of a carpet tile. This layer provides stability, dimensional stability and comfort. In addition, the backing can add extra properties such as sound insulation and ergonomic underfoot comfort.

Interface has developed several advanced backing technologies that improve both performance and sustainability.

CQuest Bio backing

CQuest Bio is the standard backing that Interface applies to many of its carpet tiles. This backing consists of a combination of recycled and bio-based materials.

An important advantage of CQuest Bio is that the materials used are CO₂-negative when measured individually. This significantly reduces the total CO₂ footprint of the floor.

Key properties of CQuest Bio:

  • Made with recycled materials
  • Contains bio-based raw materials
  • Lower CO₂ footprint
  • Stable and durable backing
  • PVC-free

This backing is suitable for all residential, office and project environments.

CQuest BioX backing

CQuest BioX is a further developed version of the CQuest Bio technology. This backing uses a higher concentration of CO₂-negative materials.

In combination with special yarns and production processes, this can result in carpet tiles that are net CO₂-negative. This means that more CO₂ is removed from the atmosphere during production than is emitted.

Features of CQuest BioX:

  • Higher concentration of sustainable materials
  • Maximum CO₂ storage in the backing
  • Suitable for sustainable building projects
  • Most sustainable backing solution from Interface
  • Innovative eco-friendly technology

This makes CQuest BioX one of the most sustainable backing solutions for carpet tiles. This backing is suitable for all residential, office and project environments.

CQuest Bio SONE and SONE+

In addition to sustainability, acoustics also play an important role in modern residential and office environments. For this purpose, Interface has developed the CQuest Bio SONE and SONE+ backings.

These integrated acoustic backings improve both sound reduction and underfoot comfort. Thanks to their integrated design, projects can be completed faster with minimal disruption.

Advantages:

  • Better acoustics in spaces
  • More underfoot comfort
  • Ergonomic benefits
  • Quick installation without extra underlay

Disadvantages:

  • Not suitable for underfloor heating

Interlay CQuest Bio SONE underlay

For extra acoustic performance, Interface has also developed a modular underlay system: the Interlay CQuest Bio SONE.

This loose underlay is placed under carpet tiles and can reduce impact sound by approximately 28 dB. In addition, this underlay improves thermal comfort, underfoot comfort and sound insulation in large spaces.

The tiles have a format of 50 x 50 cm and can be flexibly applied in any space.

Disadvantages:

  • Not suitable for underfloor heating
